Lia Block starts in Formula Winter Series
Well-known addition to the Formula Winter Series. Lia Block, the daughter of the legendary Ken Block, will compete for the GRS team in the Formula Winter Series in Jerez, Valencia and Motorland Aragon. The 17-year-old US-American will be team-mate to Belgian Douwe Dedecker and Bianca Bustamante, who also competes in the F1 Academy. Block will use the race weekends as preparation for the F1 Academy, where she will compete as a junior driver for the Williams Formula 1 team.
Block will be making her debut in formula racing. In 2023, Block won the American Rally Association O2WD National Championship, making her the youngest driver to win this title in the history of the series. She also raced internationally when she took part in the second half of the Extreme E season.
“It’s great to be working with the GRS team and I’m very happy to be racing with them for the first three race weekends of the Formula Winter Series. It will be my first race in a formula car and I am looking forward to learning as much as possible to prepare for the upcoming F1 Academy season,” said Lia Block.
Josep Trinidad, CEO and Team Principal of the GRS team: “It is an honour for GRS to be part of Lia’s first steps in Formula 4. We are delighted to welcome her to the team and to the Formula Winter Series. Her ability to adapt to a completely new car and a different style of racing, as well as her attitude and work on and off the track are remarkable. We thank Lia and Williams Racing for the trust they have placed in the GRS team and look forward to three successful race weekends together.”
